Delivery – General Information

Lowcountry Mulch is pleased to offer our customers delivery service for our bulk materials. We will make every effort to get you the correct material, delivered at the right time, and unloaded where you need it. However, there are certain limitations:

We always strive to be as timely as possible. There are times when we can become delayed. Traffic, weather, and a host of other obstacles can cause us to not meet the requested delivery time. Because of this we cannot be responsible for late or rescheduled deliveries that cause increased labor or materials costs. We will always try to keep our customers informed of delays and problems.

We require that someone be available at the unload site. If you would like we can call in advance of our arrival; just let us know at the time you schedule your delivery. We will need someone available to sign a release form for our truck to come onto the property and direct where to unload the material. If Lowcountry Mulch arrives at a scheduled delivery and no one is available to accept the delivery within 15 minutes we will return the products to our location and wait for your call to reschedule. Upon rescheduling a second delivery fee will be applied. If you are unable to be available for a scheduled delivery please call ahead and we will reschedule at no charge.

We will try our best to get the material where you need it. But please remember the following:

  • Vehicle Weight & Size – Our truck can be very heavy; sometimes as much as 80,000 lbs. For comparison, your average loaded pickup truck probably weighs less than 7,000 lbs. This extreme weight can crack thin driveways, sidewalks, and curbing. Water lines, gas lines, sprinkler systems and septic tanks can become damaged also.
  • Ground Firmness – Soft ground is another place you do not want these vehicles going. They can cause ruts, tear up grass, shrubs, or possibly get stuck.
  • Dump Action – Lastly, a dump truck’s center of gravity will move when unloading, so inclines can cause a truck to turn over.

We strive to deliver to you the correct type and quantity of material for your particular job. We have a product calculator on each product page to help you, or you can call us for additional assistance. However, we can only offer help with the information you provide us. If you measure incorrectly and that results in you not having enough or having extra material we cannot be held liable. If we have to schedule an additional delivery to complete your project you will be charged an extra delivery fee.

Mother Nature usually has her own plan and it can be different that ours. When is raining, snowing or freezing we may not be able to complete your delivery. We will do everything we can to be accommodating but remember that if your delivery had to be rescheduled that usually means that someone else’s had to be rescheduled as well.

Delivery Fees

We offer delivery service for our products and charge a fee (occasionally we do offer delivery specials so check our Specials page).

The fees we charge cover our costs for trucks, fuel, tires, repairs, maintenance, insurance, taxes, and we do have to pay our great drivers.

How to Order Mulch

Step 1 – Which mulch should I order?

The decision as to which mulch to order depends on two things – price and aesthetics. All of the mulch varieties that we sell will provide the benefits of mulch and give you excellent value for your dollar.Double Ground Hardwood Bark is our most popular. If you are after a certain look in your landscape regarding color or texture, this will control your decision. You are welcome to come into Lowcountry Mulch to examine samples of our mulches for yourself. We have a large variety of mulches to choose from.

Step 2 – When can I have mulch delivered?

We can deliver mulch Monday – Saturday during business hours. Saturdays are more popular, so if that is the day you want, be sure to call earlier. “Plan ahead” is the best advice.

Step 3 – How much mulch do I need?

To achieve the desired effects with mulching the application should be between 2″ and 2 1/2″ thick. Thicker applications are not beneficial and can even be harmful to some landscape plants. For information on mulching, look at our Frequently Asked Question section including How Do I Apply Mulch? and Top Mulching Mistakes. Mulch is sold by the cubic yard. A cubic yard would fill a box measuring 3 feet wide, 3 feet long, and 3 feet tall. One cubic yard of mulch will cover an area of 160 square feet 2 inches deep. Before calling us with your order, measure the area that you wish to mulch – length and width are enough – and we can calculate the mulch volume that you need. We do not sell bagged mulch however for comparison, most bags of mulch contain either 2 or 3 cubic feet. For most mulches, 9 bags equal one cubic yard. A 3 cubic foot bag will cover approximately 18 square feet.

Step 4 – Where can the mulch be delivered?

Before you call with your order for mulch, give some consideration to where you would like us to dump it on your property. Our trucks can hold a maximum of 25 yards of mulch so they have considerable weight even when empty. We discourage dumping your mulch in any location that requires the wheels of the truck to leave a hard surface – paving, concrete, asphalt or packed gravel. Usually we deliver to some location on the homeowner’s drive. Marking the location by spreading a tarp on the drive before the time of delivery is especially helpful. Be sure to pay attention to overhead wires or tree limbs. The truck bed has to tilt to dump the mulch so it requires sufficient overhead clearance. Our truck requires at least 18 feet of overhead clearance. See our delivery policies and delivery information pages.

Step 5 – How do I place my order?

Call Lowcountry Mulch at 971-7010. Have your measurements ready, the type of mulch you would like, the delivery location, and the form of payment. We can accept a credit card – Visa or MasterCard – or you can pay with a check or cash at the time of the delivery. There is a delivery charge and a minimum volume based on location. The delivery charge is in addition to the price of the mulch. If you have any additional questions about delivery or about our products, we would be happy to answer them at the time of your call. Of course you can also place your order by coming into our location.

How to Order Straw

Step 1 – Which pine straw should I order?

The decision as to which pine straw to order depends on two things – price and aesthetics. Both Short Needle (Slash) and Longleaf will provide the benefits of straw and give you excellent value for your dollar. If you are after a certain look in your landscape regarding color, this will control your decision. Longleaf pine straw is considered the best variety of straw for landscaping use because it contains more resin which means the straw will break down more slowly and last longer. Longleaf straw is also very uniform in color and texture. Once a base layer has been established, the bed may be periodically freshened with a thin layer over the top of the old straw.

Step 2 – When can I have straw delivered?

We can deliver mulch Monday – Saturday during business hours. Saturdays are more popular, so if that is the day you want, be sure to call earlier. “Plan ahead” is the best advice.

Step 3 – How much straw do I need?

To achieve the desired effects, the straw should be spread at least 3″ deep. You will receive the bales from us tightly wrapped with cord. You should take handfuls and shake them over the desired area so that it is distributed in a loose, fluffy manner. While a bit time consuming, it will achieve two important objectives, providing a very attractive ground cover and yielding the correct square footage from each bale. Each bale will yield about 50 square feet. Before calling us with your order, measure the area that you wish to spread pine straw – length and width are enough – and we can calculate the volume that you need. Or you can use our product calculator included on each product page.

Step 4 – Where can the straw be delivered?

Before you call with your order for straw, give some consideration to where you would like us to dump it on your property. Our trucks can hold a maximum of 200 bale of straw. We discourage dumping your straw in any location that requires the wheels of the truck to leave a hard surface – paving, concrete, asphalt or packed gravel or dirt. Usually we deliver to some location on the homeowner’s drive. Marking the location by spreading a tarp on the drive before the time of delivery is especially helpful. Be sure to pay attention to overhead wires or tree limbs. The truck bed has to tilt to dump the straw so it requires sufficient overhead clearance. Our truck requires at least 18 feet of overhead clearance.

How to Order Playground Mulch

Step 1 – Why should I order Playground Mulch?

Any surface that has play equipment on it should have a foundation of playground mulch, even home playgrounds. Playground mulch can do much to prevent serious injuries to children if they should fall off of play equipment. Playground mulch is different than gardening mulch. Our playground mulch is a durable, springy and soft wood chip. Many people have wrongly assumed that playground mulch is just something you would find at a school or public playground. That is not so. Many safety conscious parents are purchasing playground mulch for their home play area.

No one wants to think about their child becoming injured from playing. Children leave it up to the adults in their lives to keep their environments safe and friendly for them. If you have a child, you should think about having playground mulch installed at your home if you own any play equipment. A small investment in playground mulch is well worth the investment if it prevents your child from hurting themselves.

Step 2 – When can I have playground mulch delivered?

We can deliver mulch Monday – Saturday during business hours. Saturdays are more popular, so if that is the day you want, be sure to call earlier. “Plan ahead” is the best advice.

Step 3 – How much playground mulch do I need?

Playground mulch is sold by the cubic yard. A cubic yard would fill a box measuring 3 feet wide, 3 feet long, and 3 feet tall. To achieve the desired effects, Playground mulch should be spread at least 9″ deep. 1 cubic yard will cover an area 36 square feet at a 9″ depth; 27 square feet if you apply the recommended 12″.

Before calling us with your order, measure the area that you wish to cover – length and width are enough – and we can calculate the volume that you need. Or you can use our product calculator included on our Playground mulch product page.

Step 4 -Where can the playground mulch be delivered?

Before you call with your order for playground mulch, give some consideration to where you would like us to dump it on your property. Our trucks can hold a maximum of 25 cubic yards. We discourage dumping your playground mulch in any location that requires the wheels of the truck to leave a hard surface – paving, concrete, asphalt or packed gravel or dirt. Be sure to pay attention to overhead wires or tree limbs. The truck bed has to tilt to dump the playground mulch so it requires sufficient overhead clearance. Our truck requires at least 18 feet of overhead clearance.

How to Order Soil or Compost

Step 1 – What is your soil like?

Our soil is blended and screened by us. We start with a good quality topsoil and then add additional sand and compost to improve the texture and fertility. This is a terrific soil for lawn and bedding applications. We also carry Gardeners’ Choice for application to established lawns.

Step 2 – When can I have soil delivered?

We can deliver soil Monday – Saturday during business hours. Saturdays are more popular, so if that is the day you want, be sure to call earlier. “Plan ahead” is the best advice.

We prefer not to deliver soil when it is raining. If it is raining at your scheduled delivery time, we will call to recommend rescheduling your order.

Step 3 – How much soil do I need?

Soil is sold by the cubic yard. A cubic yard would fill a box measuring 3 feet wide, 3 feet long, and 3 feet tall. One cubic yard of soil will cover an area of 160 square feet 2 inches deep. Before calling us with your order, measure the area that you have in mind for the soil application – length, width and depth are enough – and we can calculate the soil amount that you need. Top dressing applications are usually 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick so a cubic yard of top dress material would be sufficient for 1000 square feet of lawn. We do not sell soil by the bag but for compression, a bag of soil usually weighs 40 pounds. There are 52 40 pound bags in a cubic yard. One bag of soil would cover 3 square feet 2 inches deep.

Step 4 -Where can the soil be delivered?

Before you call with your order for soil, give some consideration to where you would like us to dump it on your property. Our smaller truck can carry 6 yards of soil and our larger truck can carry 15 yards. They both have considerable weight even when empty. We prefer not to dump your soil in any location that requires the wheels of the truck to leave a hard surface – paving, concrete, asphalt or hard packed gravel or dirt. Usually we deliver to some location on the homeowner’s drive. Marking the location by spreading a tarp on the drive before the time of delivery is especially helpful. Be sure to pay attention to overhead wires or tree limbs. The truck bed has to tilt to dump the soil so it requires sufficient overhead clearance. Our trucks require at least 18 feet of overhead clearance. If rain is expected, it is necessary that the homeowner be prepared to cover the soil with a tarp if it cannot be moved before the change in the weather.

The delivery charge is in addition to the price of the soil. If you have any additional questions about delivery or about our products, we would be happy to answer them at the time of your call. Of course you can also place your order by coming into our location.

How to Order Rock

Step 1 – Which rock should I order?

The decision as to which rock to order depends on three things – price, aesthetics and use. We have a selection of rock at Lowcountry Mulch suitable for driveways or paths, dry river beds, leveling pavers, etc.

Step 2 – When can I have rock delivered?

We can deliver rock Monday – Saturday during business hours. Saturdays are more popular, so if that is the day you want, be sure to call earlier. “Plan ahead” is the best advice.

We prefer not to deliver soil when it is raining. If it is raining at your scheduled delivery time, we will call to recommend rescheduling your order.

Step 3 – How much rock do I need?

Applications for rock are usually measured by volume, but rock is sold by weight. For example in a driveway application using Slag 57’s, one ton covers approximately 125 square feet at 2 inches deep. Different rock have different coverage depending on the size and density of the rock.

Step 4 -Where can rock be delivered?

Before you call with your order for rock, give some consideration to where you would like us to dump it on your property. Our trucks can hold 8-10 tons of rock. We cannot dump your rock in any location that requires the wheels of the truck to leave a hard surface – paving, concrete, asphalt or packed gravel. Usually we deliver to some location on the home-owner’s drive. Marking the location by spreading a tarp on the drive before the time of delivery is especially helpful. Be sure to pay attention to overhead wires or tree limbs. Our truck needs at least 18 feet of overhead clearance in order for the bed to tilt to dump the rock. We are not able to spread the rock in a drive by “tailgating” the load. We can try, but we cannot insure that the homeowner will not have to smooth the rock with a rake.

Step 5 – How do I place my order?

Call Lowcountry Mulch at 971-7010. Have your measurements ready, the type of rock that you want, the delivery location, and the form of payment. We accept credit cards – Visa and MasterCard – or you can pay with a check or cash at the time of the delivery. There is a delivery charge and a minimum tonnage based on location. The delivery charge is in addition to the price of the rock. If you have any additional questions about delivery or about our products, we would be happy to answer them at the time of your call. Of course you can also place your order by coming into our stores.

How to Order Sand

The decision as to which sand to order depends on two things – price and use. All of the sand varieties that we sell will give you excellent value for your dollar. White Sand is good for topdressing lawns, placing in a children sand box or mixing with soils. Masonry Sand is used in creating mortar or as a base for flagstone. River Sand is good for mixing with potting soil or Gardener’s Choice. You are welcome to come into Lowcountry Mulch to examine samples of our sands for yourself. Step 3 – How much sand do I need?

If you are looking to cover an area the best way to calculate the quantity you will need to use the product calculator on the item page. Click on the above sand types to access the calculator. If you are mixing mortar, please refer to the cements recommended amount. Sand is sold by the ton.

Step 4 -Where can sand be delivered?

Before you call with your order for sand, give some consideration to where you would like us to dump it on your property. Our trucks can hold a maximum of 8 tons of sand so they have considerable weight even when empty. We discourage dumping your sand in any location that requires the wheels of the truck to leave a hard surface – paving, concrete, asphalt or packed gravel or dirt. Usually, we deliver to some location on the homeowner’s drive. Marking the location by spreading a tarp on the drive before the time of delivery is especially helpful. Be sure to pay attention to overhead wires or tree limbs. The truck bed has to tilt to dump the sand so it requires sufficient overhead clearance. Our truck requires at least 18 feet of overhead clearance.
